Discover a collection of classic cities in the Baltic, including captivating capitals and the ‘jewel in the region’s crown’ and experience their beauty, diverse cultures and unique histories. An overnight stay in St Petersburg is an outstanding highlight of this itinerary. After sailing in via the River Neva, viewing archetypal golden domes en route, have time to see iconic sites such as Peterhof Palace, the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood and much more, plus enjoy an evening at the Russian ballet, with a chance to meet the soloist after their performance. Following your time in St Petersburg, it’s on to Poland and Gdansk, a city rich in maritime heritage and centuries of fascinating history, as showcased in its many monuments and varied architectural styles.
Two memorable days in Sweden will begin with scenic cruising of the Stockholm Archipelago, passing between a collection of nearly 30,000 rocky islands and islets en route to the capital, Stockholm. Here you could explore the historic Gamla Stan district and witness the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace; visit a number of interesting museums including the Skansen Open-air Museum and ABBA: The Museum; or even take to the city’s waters and see the sights from a different perspective on a boat tour. There are also visits to the Latvian capital of Riga, where the symbolic Freedom Movement and the Old Town are not-to-be-missed, and Tallinn – Estonia’s fairytale-esque capital, where you’re sure to be enchanted by the preserved Old Town and centuries-old wonders such as the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle. What’s more, on board Balmoral you’ll also experience scenic cruising through German countryside during navigations of the Kiel Canal.
