Air Travel to Ireland

The major airports in Ireland are Dublin, Shannon, and Cork. Cork Airport is just 20 km (13 miles) from Kinsale, with not one single traffic light to hold you up along the route, resulting in a drive that only takes around 20 minutes.

Cars can be rented through numerous car hire operators at Cork Airport, and the rental offices are all located in the Arrivals Hall. Though please note that there are no rental companies based in the town of Kinsale, so Cork Airport is the closest location to hire a car.

Parking in Kinsale

While the Trident Hotel does offer onsite parking, this is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that you are unable to park on-site, there is alternative parking available as outlined below.

Parking in Kinsale is either ‘pay and display’ or free. Please carefully read the signs to determine if you need to ‘pay and display’ and if so, what the maximum allowed parking duration is.

There are four main large car parks in Kinsale:

  1. Main Town Car Park, (pay and display) Pier Road, Kinsale.
  2. Church Square Car Park (Free), Church Square, Kinsale.
  3. Town Car Park (Free, closed summer months), Pier Road, Kinsale.
  4. New Road Car Park (Free), Kinsale. This car park is suitable for coaches, tour bus and motor-home parking.

Bus Services

From Dublin to Cork City  there are several buses available, and it is recommended booking the bus online to guarantee a seat and to avail of discounted fares. The main bus station in Cork City is Parnell Place on Merchants Quay.

From Cork City to Kinsale there is a bus route departing from the city and Cork Kent Train Station on Bus Éireann number 226. This is a very frequent and reliable bus service to Kinsale that runs 7 days a week. Though please note that the journey can between anywhere between 45 – 60 minutes, but free Wi-Fi is available on all buses to pass time that much quicker. The service runs up to fifteen times a day (Monday to Saturday) with a reduced service on Sundays and public holidays.

From Cork Airport to Kinsale travellers can get on any bus travelling between Cork City and Kinsale, as all  buses stop briefly at Cork Airport. There is however a 226A bus that just services Cork City to and from the airport. Click here for the timetable.
