One of the first conventions bridge players learn is slam bidding. This is because slams are exciting and they can get you some great scores. But many players rarely bid a slam because they don’t want to put a cold game at risk without the guarantee of a higher level contract.
In contrast, guests at a BMB ‘Finding Slams’ event can be surprisingly confident in bidding slams. Certainly, at this event we will be holding some exciting hands and we will be using Roman Key card blackwood to bid accurate slams. Most slam conventions work well, as long as both players are on the same wavelength. More important than the convention, though, is the ability to identify the potential for slam. So, we won’t just be focussing on our high card points, we will be asking the question ‘how well do our hands fit together?’
