Pearl and Denis have now fully retired. Denis was a Chartered Accountant and Management Trainer, running courses and conferences all over the World. Pearl was an IT Consultant and, in her later career, was a senior IT manager.
They started playing Bridge together at University. Although there was a lull as their children were growing up and their careers blossomed, Bridge was a constant backdrop.
They have had some success playing in Yorkshire competitions and have represented Yorkshire in inter-county events many times. Pearl was also selected to play for Great Britain but she is very quick to say that it was a long time ago. One of their Bridge highlights was winning the Portland Pairs – the National Mixed Pairs Championship – in 2016.
Following the pandemic and the explosion of online Bridge they now play a lot more Bridge online, both socially and competitively. It has allowed them to connect with a much more widespread Bridge community.
Denis is a qualified teacher and director and has been teaching Bridge at all levels for many years. They both continue to teach and coach locally in Huddersfield.
Pearl is an ardent Liverpool FC fan and season ticket holder and follows them all over Europe in the Champions League. They both enjoy reading, music, fine wine and spending time with friends.
