Event Topic Introduction

Ready to sharpen your bidding arsenal? Learn these useful techniques and watch your results soar!

Cue bids and splinters are powerful tools that help partners communicate strength, controls and fit with accuracy and precision.

A cue bid (also called a control bid) shows potential slam interest by indicating a control in that suit. Used when a fit has been found, they allow partnerships to explore slam potential safely and avoid getting into dangerously high contracts.

Cue bids, i.e. a bid of the opponent's suit, can also ask a question, e.g. 'partner, do you have a stopper in this suit? If so, NT might be on.' or simply 'partner, please describe your hand further'. Obviously it's forcing as you wouldn't want to leave partner in opps suit!

A splinter bid (a kind of cue bid) is a dramatic jump in a new suit showing a singleton or void while confirming support for partner's suit. It's game-going with possible slam interest.

By mastering these bids you'll bid slams with confidence, your results will improve and your partner will be happy!
